Furnace at Rio Tinto’s Richards Bay Minerals shut in response to the depletion of available feedstock due to safety concerns
Rio Tinto’s Richards Bay Minerals (RBM) operation, located in South Africa, has announced it has shut one of its four furnaces, until further notice, due to the depletion of available feedstock at the plant, as a result of security and safety concerns.

ArcelorMittal: climate report
ArcelorMittal published its second group climate action report, following the first group report published in May 2019. In the new report, ArcelorMittal has announced a 2030 global carbon emissions intensity reduction target of 25%, with a large focus on Greener furnaces.
GrafTech’s new office
GrafTech, a manufacturer of high-quality graphite electrode products essential to the production of electric arc furnace steel, announced the opening of a new sales office in Chiba-shi, Japan, which will provide GrafTech’s customers in the region with local commercial, customer service and technical support.
Tenova: New launch
Tenova has announced the launch of the development of the first burners for heat treatment furnaces using up to 100% hydrogen while keeping NOx emissions largely below the strictest limits, aligning with Tenovas initiatives to a decarbonized industry production.
AVB: Furnace investment
Brazilian steel producer, Aço Verde do Brasil (AVB) has achieved carbon-neutral steel production, certified by Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS). The company has also invested in the development of a patented charcoal carbonization furnace, set to enter the testing phase later this year.
