Vitro has started the Line 2 furnace at its glass plant in Meadville, Pennsylvania, USA.
The Mexican glass manufacturer said the start-up marked a key advancement in scaling its operations to support its partnership with First Solar.
The investment, estimated at $180 million, will allow Vitro to provide the glass front sheets used in thin-film photovoltaic (PV) solar panels manufactured by First Solar.
The expanded operations are expected to generate approximately $1.3 billion in sales over the next 10 years.
To commemorate the occasion, a lighting ceremony was held at the facility, which was attended by team members and company leadership.
