O-I Glass is to close a furnace at its Maastricht manufacturing site, The Netherlands with the loss of 95 jobs.
The world's largest container glass manufacturer informed staff on Wednesday this week and the union on Thursday.
It had previously announced its Fit to Win programme which would see the closure of six furnaces around the globe.
It said the closure of the M2 furnace would lead to the loss of 95 jobs of the 300 staff who work there.
O-I said: "O-I continuously evaluates the long-term needs of the business and the viability of the operations at each manufacturing facility to best serve our customer base.
“To further increase competitiveness and improve profitability, we plan to permanently discontinue one of the three furnaces at our Maastricht facility.
“This plan was not made lightly, but it is a crucial step towards enhancing our cost-competitiveness and achieving sustainable profitability.
“Our goal is to strengthen the plant’s market position and ensure its future success.
“Our top priority is to support our employees and provide them with the necessary resources to manage this transition."
